Our Core Values
Body Positivity and Body Inclusivity - As women who have had our own personal struggles with disordered eating and body image, we feel strongly about challenging the narrative around "bouncing back" or "losing the baby weight". Mother's bodies are incredible and deserve nourishment to fuel the work they do. We support, respect and honor all bodies.
Mental Health Awareness - Most women experience mood changes during and after childbirth, however, 15-20% of women experience more significant symptoms of depression and anxiety. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS) are more common than we’re led to believe and treatment is available and effective! We believe that maternal health is about more than nutrition and it is our mission to reduce stigma around maternal mental health struggles and help educate and provide resources to support moms mental health.
Anti-racism - We recognize that there are huge disparities in birth outcomes for Black moms due to systemic racism in the health care system. Black moms are 3-4 times more likely to die in childbirth, than white mothers. Black moms are more likely to experience pre-term birth and more likely to have a baby with low birth weight. These differences are not due to differences in genetics, education level, income level or even the presence or absence of prenatal care. We are committed to supporting Black mothers. As a company we make regular donations to organizations that support birth equity for Black mothers.
LGBTQ Allyship - We support LGBTQ parents in their parenthood journey and recognize the unique challenges LGBTQ parents and children still face. We aim to work together to create a safe and welcoming world for all families where we celebrate love is love.
Authenticity - Parenting is messy and not always easy! We aim to foster a community of support and acceptance. There's no place for judgement here at Mama Bar, we're here to listen, share and facilitate important dialogue.
Giving Back - We're all in this together. We commit to donating a portion of our proceeds to non-profit organizations that are working hard to make this world a better place for all of us.
